Carpobrotus rossii, commonly known as Native Pigface, is a hardy Australian coastal groundcover prized for its vibrant pink daisy-like flowers and succulent, spreading foliage. Fast growing and extremely drought tolerant, it forms a dense, low mat ideal for coastal gardens, slopes and sunny groundcover areas.

This species is indigenous to coastal areas of the Wyndham region, making it an excellent choice for local native planting and coastal restoration-style gardens. It is naturally adapted to sand, salt spray and exposed seaside conditions, thriving where many plants struggle.

Through spring and summer, Native Pigface produces masses of bright blooms followed by edible succulent fruits. The ripe fruit has a mild, salty-sweet flavour and has traditionally been used to make jams and preserves, adding an edible native element to the garden.

Perfect for banks, rockeries, coastal landscapes and large containers, Carpobrotus rossii spreads quickly to stabilise soil and suppress weeds. Supplied in a 140mm pot, it establishes rapidly and provides long-lasting groundcover.

It is an eye-catching everlasting daisy, displaying vibrant, papery bright-yellow flowers mainly during spring and summer. The plant features long, slender, dark green leaves that have a sticky texture when touched. Still common along roadsides around the You Yangs National Park

To maintain a bushy appearance and prolong its lifespan, it's recommended to prune the plant significantly during autumn.

This lovely species thrives in open, sunny locations with well-drained soil. While it can tolerate some shade, it does not fare well in areas with poor drainage. During dry periods, watering is necessary to keep the plant healthy

Its underground roots can creep along making a blanket of soft fern foliage.
