DESCRIPTION: A medium-sized shrub with abundant purple, bottlebrush flowers during spring and summer.
USES: Ideal for seaside gardens, shrubberies, as a screening or hedge plant. The flowers attract nectar feeding birds.
POSITION: Callistemons are hardy, adapt able shrubs which grow in the poorest soils, will withstand water-logging for extended periods, moderate coastal exposure and short periods of dryness.
CARE: Prune lightly after flowering to main tain compact growth. Apply a low phosphorus fertiliser in spring and autumn.
PLANTING: Cultivate soil before planting. Dig hole twice the width of the container. Remove plant from container and place into the hole so the soil level is the same as the sur rounding ground. Fill hole firmly and water in well even if the soil is moist.
