Macca is a small growing Australian nut tree. It bears cream, lightly fragrant flowers which are followed by delicious Macadamia nuts.
Macadamias begin flowering in May and although they can flower heavily, only a small percentage of the flowers will produce fruit. They are insect pollinated and benefit by planting bee attracting plants that flower at the same time.
When the nuts are pea sized (5-8 weeks after flowering) the tree may prematurely drop nuts to regulate it's crop load. The shells begin to harden by December and the nut oil levels begin to buil up. Mature nuts will drop to the ground for harvesting from mid-February until August-September.
