A type of climbing orchid that produces the popular vanilla pod.
Typically the Vanilla Bean plant will produce pods after 2-3 years.
Sensitive to cooler climates and requires a warm, humid position. Best grown indoors in colder climates.

Dried vanilla pods are used to produce the classic vanilla flavour of desserts and drinks.
The pods need to be cured before use and then the beans can be used whole or made into your own extract.
Vanilla has many health benefits and is reputed to reduce stress, anxiety and blood pressure.

One bean = 2 - 3 teaspoons of bought extract
