Lavender dentata 'French Lavender' 150mm Pot

Lavandula dentata, commonly known as French Lavender, is a beautiful evergreen shrub producing masses of fragrant lavender-purple flower spikes above attractive silver-green foliage, bringing colour, perfume and Mediterranean charm to Australian gardens.

French Lavender is a popular, easy-to-grow variety prized for its distinctive finely toothed leaves, aromatic foliage and exceptionally long flowering season. Elegant lavender-purple flowers are topped with delicate bracts and held above the softly textured foliage, creating a colourful display that attracts bees, butterflies and other beneficial pollinators. In suitable conditions, this hardy lavender can flower for much of the year, with particularly strong displays during spring and summer.

Thriving in sunny, well-drained positions, French Lavender is an excellent choice for cottage gardens, low hedging, garden borders and decorative containers. Its naturally rounded growth habit and aromatic foliage make it particularly appealing along pathways, near entrances and around outdoor entertaining areas.

Plant Care

Plant in a full sun position in well-drained soil. French Lavender thrives in sandy or gravelly soils and prefers good drainage, particularly during wet winter conditions. Water regularly during establishment, then reduce watering once plants are established, allowing the soil to dry slightly between applications. Avoid overwatering and heavy, waterlogged soils. Lightly trim after flowering to maintain a dense, rounded shape and encourage fresh growth, avoiding cutting back into old, leafless wood. Apply a light application of slow-release fertiliser in spring if required. Protect from severe frost and cold, wet conditions.

Lavender dentata French Lavender is a timeless garden favourite, combining fragrant silver-green foliage, beautiful lavender-purple flowers and exceptional drought tolerance to create a colourful, low-maintenance feature for sunny Australian gardens.
