The intoxicating smell of the port wine Magnolia only starts to filter through after 3pm, and into the evening. It's named after port wine jelly as its perfume smells like. Not everyone is familiar with that food, however, juicy fruit gum or sweet banana flavours are also ways to decribe the smell.

The plant also make an excellent screening shrub for sun or shade. It can be hedged to a smaller size then it's natural 3m height.

It's worth planting just for the perfume
