Persimmon fuyu is a non-astringent fruit that you can eat while still firm. (What we call the crunchy one). Beautiful and sweet, growing to a height of 6m unless pruned. Fruit sets on new wood, therefore it is able to be kept at a more managable height. The fruit sets in Oct-Nov and is ready to pick in May as the leaves start to full. They can hang on the tree for many weeks without the need for picking. A very beautiful tree with autumn red leaves and bright orange fruit at a time when all the apples and stone fruit are finished.
Being from Japan with a much higher summer rainfall then Wyndham, they do best with additional summer watering. Mulch with sugarcane to prevent from drying out. Feed in early spring to engourage plenty of fruit setting growth.
