Stapelia schinzi var angolensis
Very hardy species with unique 8cm flowers near the base of short upright stems. Odour is medium and not recommended indoors whilst in flower. They are soft bodied succulents that can easily be damaged or rot, so care must be taken with handling and watering.
Position - full sun or partial shade, preferably under
cover. Indoors only near windows.
Watering - regularly over the growing period from spring to autumn but it is essential to allow the mix to dry between waterings.
Feeding - 25% of recommended dosage monthly in
growing period. The less food, the better the shape
of the plant. Fertilisers high in nitrogen can reduce
flowering period.
Repotting can be left to overgrow their pots. If repotting is needed, the best time is spring or early summer after growth starts; older plants should not have their roots disturbed. If older plants begin to rot remove younger growth and use these to make a new plant.
